DAVE DRUMMOND Rambler
When Dave first heard about our Rambler project it ticked all the boxes for him. As a busy commercial pilot he simply didn’t have the time to run all over town from supplier to supplier to build his ultimate tourer.
When Dave first heard about our Rambler project it ticked all the boxes for him. As a busy commercial pilot he simply didn’t have the time to run all over town from supplier to supplier to build his ultimate tourer. With the Rambler we could build a turn key solution for himthat not only offered him convenience but also a sense of security knowing that in the unlikely event something went wrong there was only one place he had to call.
We began working through Dave’s desired build in January and by early February we had secured the vehicle and the build was under way. On top of the standard Rambler kit inc the TJM bar work and GVM Upgrade Dave had some specific needs. To make the barwork and lower boxes more durable for scrub work we coated them in Raptor –a 2 pac ripple finish product designed for lining ute trays and wear surfaces. This finish looks the part but also protects from sticks and scratches
When it came to the rear body there were a few additions here. On the drivers side we added a vented door and rubber top on the drawer so that Dave could put his wet and dirty gear somewhere and also a home for his dog on the longer trips. We also designed a rear rack, dual spare holder shelf and drop side to suit Dave’s requirements (all components that are now part of our Spinifex Manufacturing offering)
On the bigger trips Dave tows his Patriot Camper however for the quick over nighters we sourced and fitted a James Baroud tent that sits snugly on the rear mini body.
79 Series Cruisers have a different track between the front and rear wheels. This originally came about when Toyota shoehorned the V8 into the engine bay –this forced them to make the chassis and in turn the front diff wider. This track difference causes issues when travelling offroad, particularly on sand. To solve this for Dave we teamed up with DWIZ Diffs a Queensland company that offers a full bolt in replacement for the 79. We were so impressed with their quality, engineering approvals and customer support that they are now a common offering on our Ramblers.
Toyota designed the 70 series to be a workhorse and as such it lacks a few of the creature comforts that most modern vehicles have. To help improve the drivability of the vehicles we added a Cruiser Consoles Center Console for Dave aswell as a full Alpine sound system and dynamat to the doors. These are all standard additions to our Rambler builds. Dave took delivery in March 2019 and has since travelled extensively in his Rambler making full use of all the features we have added to the car
