The Birth Of A Rambler
Over the years we have seen a number of companies offering turn key vehicle solutionsand often thought to ourselves that we could do it better. In December 2018 we purchased a new Dual Cab 79 Series in the iconic Sandy Taupe colour and set about birthing the Rambler Project.
Our goal was to take our extensive industry and remote travel experience and develop a vehicle build that was not only function but also offered value to the consumer. We combined all of our ideas into our first build which was launched on January 1st2019.
We wanted to partner with quality brands that complimented the Toyota name. Using TJM Products was a given –it is a brand that we have worked with for many years and one that offers a level of durability and style equal to that of the vehicle itself. TJM provide the bulk of the components for our build starting with the suspension. In late 2018 TJM had achieved federal approval to offer 3950kg GVM upgrades with their TJM XGS and all new TJM Pace Remote Res suspension systems –this worked perfectly in build 001. We were the first company to fit the all new Pace GVM Plus kit to a 79 and we were impressed with the result. Our finished Rambler weighed in at 3140KG giving us a payload of over 800KG and a ride quality that was dramatically better than factory.
The addition of TJM products continue on the outside of the vehicle as well. Fitted with a TJM T13 Outback Bar (a descendant of the legendary TJM BlackStallion Bar) and matching 63mm side rails and steps the occupants of the Rambler are well protected, while the styling matches and compliments that of the 79 itself. In the bar we have fitted a 12,000lb TJM Torq winch. To help keep the dust and water outwe replace the factory elevated air intake with a TJM Airtec Snorkel and wired up a set of TJM 215 LED driving lights on the front bar to light up those outback roads.
We continued the TJM theme with the addition of the all new TJM HDuty Compressor mounted in the rear and controlled by the TJM Connect air control system for perfectly pumped up tyres.
We had seen a trend emerging with utes running half canopy and half tray set ups. These were all trays with a box sitting on top, however the down side to this was weight. We set about designing an integrated mini body and tray design that offered the best of both worlds. With our Spinifex Manufacturing Brand we designed and built our first mini body combo –a design that is now our best seller.

Upon completing our first Rambler build and launching it we were unsure how the market would react… this uncertainty was short lived. When we released the first video and photos our phone and email started going off. Within 24 hours Rambler 001 was sold and by the end of week one we had several other orders. We also had a call from the team at 4×4 Australia who described what we had built as “A spark of genius”. Rambler 001 graced the cover of 4×4 Australia in April 2019
